Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure Acquires Cambridge Systematics' Transportation Permitting Software

Purchase provides customers with complete solution for oversize, overweight vehicle permitting and routing

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 17, 2016 - (PRNewswire) -  Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure has acquired Cambridge Systematics' (OS/OW) oversize/overweight vehicle permitting software. The application will be combined with Hexagon completo permitting routing applications, providing departments of transportation with a single solution to ensure safe and efficient travel of oversize/overweight vehicles through their communities.

The new, fully integrated solution from Hexagon will feature the former Cambridge Systematics' permitting application, PermitCS, and Hexagon's route planning and restriction management applications. PermitCS will be renamed and rebranded as a Hexagon product. Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure and Cambridge Systematics have partnered to successfully serve the OS/OW market since 2009, and multiple states[1] currently use the combined solution. The companies will collaborate to ensure a smooth transition for existing customers.

GISP Map Contest Summary

his year's contest will require an entrant to use the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) to tell a story about change.

Perhaps it will be about habitat loss, or maybe it will be about urban growth - whatever story you choose to tell, it must be supported by analysis of two or more years in NLCD and you must include the numbers in the map. We've seen a lot of pretty maps over the years; Now we want to see some hard-hitting analysis to support the pretty picture.

Who may enter: Anyone is eligible, except those who are going to judge.

Submission Time Frame: March 1 to 31, 201 6 - email submittal

Prizes:

  • $1st 250, $2nd 150, $3rd 100, People's Choice $250 and Honorable Mentions.
  • Each winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and People's Choice) will also have their initial certification fee waived if the application is submitted within one year of the date the winners are announced.  Current GISPs will have their renewal fees waived at their next recertification date.
  • Map submittal earns / qualifiés for 1 point under the Contribution to the Profession category.

Fisheries and Marine Institute, a WOC Affiliate Member, Creates Master of Marine Studies in Marine Spatial Planning and Management

16 February 2016- The Memorial University Fisheries and Marine Institute will inaugurate the new Master of Marine Studies in Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Management, the first graduate program of its kind in Canada, in September 2016.

"Marine spatial planning is an emerging and important field that is gaining prominence as global demands on our coastal spaces and oceans increase," said Carey Bonnell, head of the Marine Institute completo School of Fisheries. "We want to position our graduates to apply technology-supported knowledge and expertise and provide the best advice to sustain and use our marine resources through responsible ocean economic activity."

The program focuses on governance, policy/legislative, ecological, socio-economic, cultural, and technological elements of sustainable ocean and coastal zone development, planning and management. Students will study the mapping and analysis of human activities and environmental features as part of planning environmentally/economically sustainable use of coastal and marine environments. Students will also learn conflict management and facilitation to effectively engage coastal and ocean regulators and stakeholders.
