Swift Navigation, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson and Quectel Announce New Vision for Supporting 3GPP SSR Standard
SAN FRANCISCO, June 30, 2020 (GLOBE
NEWSWIRE) -- Swift Navigation, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson
today announced a new industry vision for how precise positioning
will be delivered to enable autonomous driving, mobile and IoT
applications, supporting an interoperable and standards-driven
Precision positioning using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is today delivered using proprietary and legacy protocols that are not scaling to meet the demands of emerging applications. Building on the combined work of the companies, a new standard utilizing State Space Representation (SSR) technology will be released in the latest revision of 3GPP, Release 16. The 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project)—which Swift, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson and Quectel are contributing members—unites the world’s seven telecommunications standards organizations to define specifications and maintain global telecommunications standards. This milestone represents the first time a truly open and independently-governed standard has been available to support precise positioning—backed by ecosystem demand from the wide reaches of 3GPP.
This vision extends to any Internet-connected device by making new levels of precision available to users via standard Internet protocols, including the familiar Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) protocol, a widely adopted standard for mobile GNSS assistance data. Swift...

Call for Sponsors of Testbed-17: Collaborate and Innovate to Advance the Power of Location
Join with geospatial experts to solve your organization’s technology challenges and shape the future of location technologies
29 June 2020: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is currently preparing its next major Innovation Initiative, Testbed-17, which builds upon the success and outcomes of Testbed-15 and Testbed-16, and other IP initiatives. OGC is now inviting any potential sponsor organizations to bring forward their technology/integration challenges. Responses are due by September 1, 2020.
Challenges put forth by sponsoring organizations will be refined and mapped to a set of work items that OGC member organizations will apply to solve. The OGC Innovation Program team, together with the sponsors, will then select the most qualified organizations to join Testbed-17 and help solve these challenges.
In a collaborative effort, all Testbed participants, sponsors, and the OGC team work together to stepwise increase Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) for geospatial IT solutions, including software architecture, interface design, information & data models, and related standards and specifications. Testbed participants follow a rapid prototyping approach to design, develop, and test solutions to sponsors’ location-related problems.
OGC’s annual Testbeds are the Consortium’s largest Innovation Program (IP) initiatives. Testbeds boost...
GfK’s Map of the Month for June illustrates the brick-and-mortar retail turnover share of private consumption in Europe in 2019.
According to GfK’s latest retail study, the retail turnover share of overall consumer expenditures in the EU-27 decreased by 1.0 percent last year to 29.9 percent. Contributing factors to this decline include competition from online retail and a trend toward more spending on services.
